Why we teach differently

We're raising the standard of fitness education

Too many PT courses are designed to get students through a checklist. Edinburgh Personal Training Academy is designed to prepare you for the gym floor: real conversations, sound planning, clear demonstration and confident adaptation.

Led by James and Ewa — a teaching team focused on practical judgment, individual support and coaching that lasts.

Why standards matter Personal training is becoming a joke
01

Talk

Understand the person, their goals, history and readiness before writing a programme.

02

Plan

Turn assessment findings into focused sessions and a progression that makes sense.

03

Demonstrate

Coach exercises with precise setup, clear cues and professional gym-floor presence.

04

Adapt

Read what is happening and adjust the exercise, session or plan for the individual.

Interactive 10-week syllabus

From foundations to systems mastery

Three connected phases take you from screening and programme design to applied coaching, commercial setup and confident delivery.

Phase 01 Foundations, Screening & Program Design Weeks 1–4
Week 01

Warm-up science & CARS

Build purposeful warm-ups and use controlled articular rotations to understand joint function.

Week 02

10 screening stations

Read posture, squat, shoulder, hinge, balance, core and cardiovascular movement findings.

Week 03

9-step program design

Classify the client, set the goal and make clear decisions on frequency, load, volume, rest and tempo.

Week 04

The DECA framework

Demonstrate, explain, coach and affirm so every session builds both competence and client confidence.

Phase 02 Applied Biomechanics & Commercial Setup Weeks 5–7
Week 05

Upper-body mechanics & 3 G's

Coach pressing mechanics through grip, gut and glutes, then apply the same precision across upper-body patterns.

Week 06

Practical skill rotation

Develop adaptable coaching through rotating kettlebell, calisthenics and pad-work practice.

Week 07

Business ethics & pitching

Set up a responsible service, communicate your value and present a clear offer with professional confidence.

Phase 03 Lower Body Matrix, Energy Systems & Systems Mastery Weeks 8–10
Week 08

Lower body matrix

15 advanced systems

Apply proven systems including GVT, 5×5 and 6-12-25 with sound progression and coaching judgment.

How the Student Hub works

Course selectivity

We don't take everyone. We take the right few.

Every intake is capped at 8–12 students. That protects the quality of the coaching, gives every student meaningful floor time and lets James and Ewa know how you are progressing.

Why selectivity matters

The right environment for serious future coaches

We look for students who are ready to learn, practise, accept feedback and raise the standard for their future clients.

  • 8–12 students per intake
  • Individual coaching feedback
  • Career-focused education
